I laughed out loud when I read the article Racket in the Kitchen, Ruckus in the Crib (in todays NY Times Dining Out section). I vividly remember making my husband carry our Cuisinart into our bathroom (the furthest room from Ian's) so that we could puree whatever I happened to be making without disturbing the sleeping (finally!) infant...and then making pact with him that neither of us would ever tell our dinner guests that food had been partially prepared on the floor next to my (extremely clean) tub. At this point, my son has grown so accustomed to the noises that emanate from the Kitchen Aid and Cuisinart that he doesn't notice them at all when he is sleeping. When he is awake, he dances around the apartment as if my kitchen equipment is playing music just for him.
As amused as I was by the article, I was shocked by the judgemental nature of some of the comments posted online and the direct relationship that some people seemed to draw between taking extra care to let sleeping babies lie and turning children into picky eaters. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I just don't get it.
